Our Project
Human Factory
Our project is a 2D and 3D mixed animation named Human Factory. We want to present the city view also people’s daily life to show how the future world would work, and hybrid animation might be the better choice. Our group wants to explore more possibilities with mixed animation, such as 3D rendering for the background while having 2D animated characters in the front or mid-scene. We are going to design characters by ourselves using Photoshop with tables. 3D model and render using various software such as Maya, 3dsMax, or C4D; 2D animation with Adobe After Effect. Our group members are passionate about making animations, and we are all very interested in the theme of the future world.
Theme – Dystopia
The future world will not be as interesting and colorful as we expect. Because of the widening gap between the rich and the poor, it will be a boring world full of despair.
The Future World – Human Factory
Background Storyline
RULER, a young person with cutting-edge technology, has made considerable scientific achievements, particularly in cloning and chip technology. With the help of those technologies and his wild ambitions, RULER is sitting on the top of the future world, like the sun surrounded by planets. The incredible wealth and power are mastered by him. The more astonishing thing is he took possession of most of the Earth’s resources within three decades.
However, his perverted possessiveness and ambition were still not satisfied.
In 2150, since most of the resources have been possessed by RULER, even Oxygen, it brings him the ability to control the human’s life and death. The resources must be bought from RULER, and the poor who cannot afford the price have no choice but to die. The death of the poor led to the lack of labor. For filling in this gap, he created clones with top synthetic DNA. They are tools with no thoughts, no feelings, no desires. With those clones, RULER made the new century as he wished. He became the king and controlled everything.
But are his desires really satisfied here?

Reflection & Next Step
- In the process of doing this project, the iAcademy students we were working with suddenly lost contact with us after we discussed our storyline, which led to a part of our background plot not being able to be shown in the form of animation. So we can only change part of the plot and then offer our side of the animation. The rest of the story can not be shown in animation can only use text to express or do part of the deletion. The breakdown of communication was of our most significant issues.
- We spent quite a lot time building models to create the scenario, even in the end they are just a few seconds in the video. Most of our works were based on C4D modeling + Octane Render. then export the images to make the animation or gifs. Both Doris’s and Aimee’s computers had a really bad time with the high quality rendering. We still would like to explore more possibilities with 2D and 3D mixed-animation with more softwares. This was a really good start!
- If we had more time, we will show the part of the plot that is not shown in animation yet. We would definitely enrich our storyline as well. Then we will refine part of the plot based on the original and show it in the form of animation. In terms of the story, we will add the ending of RULER or add some conflict between RULER and Human to make the whole plot sublime. In terms of animation, we will add more scenes (describing the life of RULER; the suffering of the lower class people). For this big step, we might need to have more colleague to work together!
